Team spirit in action – spotlight on volunteers
Thirty-two volunteers had confirmed their participation in advance. On the day itself, another twenty helpers showed up. Wow. Regular guests, day visitors, and tourists formed an impressive team.
It’s now become a delicious breakfast tradition on a workday: stacks of freshly baked waffles from Viviane, with and without apples, and large thermoses of steaming coffee.
Manager Peter, together with a few experienced "team leaders," mapped out the toughest tasks on the site beforehand. Chainsaws, safety coveralls, helmets were ready. Wouter brought his indispensable, rugged "tractor" again.
After the briefing, the team began felling the sick trees in the parking lot, sawed and split wood on the dog meadow, and carried out major maintenance in the pool area, including sanding and painting the benches.
Céline had clearly listed all the tasks and let the remaining helpers choose organically where they felt most motivated. Organizing the large equipment cellar, gathering dead branches, weeding, pruning, cleaning, removing moss from the barbecue shelter roof …
Meanwhile, the kitchen queens continued preparing a tasty soup lunch and a delicious evening buffet.
A huge amount of work got done everywhere. By early evening, many backs complained, knees creaked, and feet started aching. Everyone was tired but very satisfied and justifiably proud of all the achievements.
Time for a well-deserved aperitif and a refreshing shower. Some even took a quick sauna to soothe their muscles. Before dinner, a heartfelt speech was dedicated to Peter and Céline. Tearful moments here and there.
The hungry crowd enjoyed their meal outside at the tables. Long live Indian Summer. And then: DJ Dave! Those with a second wind hit the dance floor.
Incredible but true, all that happened on that sunny Saturday. Huge thanks to all the enthusiastic helping hands and happy faces!
